U of U update

I am kind of upset about this whole thing...... Carter does not have any of the rocking and speech delays that an autistic child has. With Asperger's it is more of a social delay and not knowing how to read people. Well he did not meet the criteria to join the research group because of this, which means that he does not get the ADI test that I needed for the school district. I have to go and get my own done. He does have specific characteristics of autism just not enough for the study.

In a way I feel blessed that he does not meet the needs but still feel like I am at square one. I know these test will not change who my child is or how I feel about him but I was hoping that it would change the way the school views him and help him with the friend situation as well as the social skills that he needs. We told him that we would go inside the capital building if he was good and the poor thing.... We had to pin him down to have his blood drawn and a guard at the door. He was sooooooo mad!!! He got paid $30.00 to do the study but lost $15.00 before we left. We have no idea where it went. Here are some pics of the State Capital.

Our Weekend

I am sick of having fingerprints on the walls! This weekend I gave the kids rags and told them they had baseboards, doors, doorknobs, and the walls. They loved it! So did I.

We took a break and Shayla went to play with the chickens.

Carter made his famous Lemon aid. He told me that you do not smile in pic's when it is something you made. I asked, "Why" his response "because in all the inventors pic's they don't smile" I had to explain that cameras back then were not as fast and it was to long to hold a smile. He still wanted his pic like this.....

After Church Shayla helped dad make biscuits.

The finished product (I left this pic side ways just to get a rise out of Matt! He hates it when I turn the camera)

While Shayla cooked Carter found his Brian the Brain and was listing to some music he was into the electronic thing last night and replaced batteries in everything he could find!

Autism Research Project

Well in the morning we go for our 6 hour testing with Carter. Wish us luck! He still doesn't know about the blood work. I told him that if he is good we can go do something after. He wants to go see the State Capital Building. I think we can manage this one! It just to bad the weather is so GREAT! Here is a good video I found on it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAfWfsop1e0&feature=related

Another Trip

I have decided that Shayla should be in a bubble this week! Yet another trip to the after hours. She was putting up the play dough and the glass from a picture frame fall out and cut open her toe. I didn't know if it needed stitches or not but also had to make sure that there was NO glass in her toe. Good news no Glass and they just glued it shut...... Oh is this week over yet?

Popcorn anyone?

Don't think that this is a regular popcorn kernel because it is NOT!! This is a special one coated in GOLD..... If Shayla was not involved it would just be a regular piece of popcorn. Yesterday we went to a Birthday party when Shayla came upstairs and said she could not get IT out of her ear. I called the doctor (knowing Shayla's ears) the appointment was at 4:50 (this was 4:30). They tried to get it out with everything and I kept asking are you sure you can get this out????

Well to make a long story shorter....They put water into her ear and she cried and yelled even louder (Shayla's ears can not handle water) Finally they called in another doctor to look at it. His plan was to put glue on a toothpick and try to pull it out. My response, "That is STUPID! What are the odds of her moving or this now wet piece of popcorn turning and you gluing the toothpick or the kernel to her ear?" Their response, " Huh we can not guarantee anything". I was so MAD! You could see the thing before we went in and now you can not see anything and she is SCREAMING non stop!!! I called the ENT when they went out of the room to talk about it. Well after 4 hours, a after hours ENT and after hours at the Provo Surgical Center plus the anesthesiologist IT CAME OUT!!!
I LOVE HEDI HERAS!!!!!!!!!! She is the best ENT and I felt soooooo bad that I had to call her. Needless to say I do not think Shayla will do this again and I am not sure how I feel about popcorn! Maybe I will get all involved a movie and a box of popcorn!

Yeh!!! Thank You U of U

It is official. Carter goes to the U on the 31rst. They are doing a research project on Autism and they are doing ALL the tests for free!! I had to fill out this huge packet of questions since it is research they ask Everything. I am so glad a kept a baby book I had to go back and look at it several times and it is kind of funny because some of the things I wrote in there are definite signs of Asperger's and I never seen it. Here is a example....
When Carter was little (even now) he would not respond to his own name. I started calling him Suzy and he would look at me and say what. Even to this day I can do this and he will still respond. This is when he was a year and a half old. He would never eat mush or anything that had a different texture. Still to this day Carter has not tried several things.

I have not told him that he, myself and Matt are all having blood work done. This will be interesting. They will pay him for it but I am pretty sure the response will be..... You are not taking my blood you are not paying me for it because when you take it it will kill me them you will get to keep the money... Just a thought. We will see.....

Chickens

This is what happens when the neighbors invite you over for a game night (fun). They had chickens told us they were not hard to raise really easy, cheap and you get eggs. Matt came home and got online and found some for cheap....talked me into it and now guess what we have?

Six yes that is right SIX. I went to buy 3 at the most. I could not buy just one of one kind so I had to buy two of each...... so six! What did I do???

Carter being brave....

Shayla looking at the feet. She will not leave them alone I am putting a lock on the basement door until they are old enough to go outside!

Stamps and Shayla

Shayla loves stamps and scissors!!! Shayla is no longer aloud to play with the stamps or scissors...sorry Michele!

This is what she did on the way home from pre-school.
Very proud of herself!

Thanks goodness I caught her before the car got it! As for the scissors.....well my mother in law no longer has shoe laces and all the stuffed animals in the backroom all got a haircut.
